Two images by Bill Jackson, one of which is shown here (Hurricane in Havana), were accepted into “Sustainable Silicon Valley’s Annual Summit 2013”, a component of which is a display of art that best represents the theme of “sustainability”.

He also shared the following: “I had an image in last year’s Summit as well (which was also used for the cover of the agency’s brochure).  I encourage any club member who supports earth-based sustainable solutions to enter your work that is consistent with this theme in next year’s Summit.  It is held in May of each year and is, in my opinion, a worthy cause."

Sustainable SV Summit’s goals as stated on its website:  “In the areas of water, energy and smart technology, the Summit catalyzes action for a more sustainable future by bringing together leaders from many sectors to understand barriers and exchange insights. Build bridges and find opportunities for collaboration and innovation, breakthroughs, results.”

This image of a snorting elephant (entitled 'SPF 100') is by member Ira Greenberg, who has dual membership in the Sunnyvale Photo Club and the PACC. Ira captured the photo on a safari to San Diego.  The Sunnyvale Photo Club displays one of its members' photos at the library every month.

Congratulations to the following PACC members whose images have been accepted into the upcoming show for the 2013 Kellicutt International Juried Photo Competition. Our club did very well this year. In fact it's a record! (Because of the large number of images we have limited the lead image in this posting to 'Baylands Salt Flats', by esteemed senior member Marvin Wax.) Hiroshi Suzuki's image from wetplate photography project "Guang and Sen Lin" is included in Triton Museum of Art, Statewide Photography exhibition 2013. It is open 4/19-6/23, and the opening reception is May 10th 6-8pm.

Member Elaine Heron's image entitled "Cows Coming Home" will be in the 'Light and Dark, Photography Now' exhibit running May 3 to 30 at the Pacific Art League.  It is located at  227 Forest Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94301, just around the corner from the previous location.  The opening reception is the first Friday event on May 3, 5:30 to 8:00. Free parking is available in the nearby underground garage of City Hall.

"This past summer, the Palo Alto Art Center invited photographers to  photograph the 'Double Take' reed sculpture on the Art Center’s grounds.  Two outside judges then chose images to appear in a book published by the Art Center. It was a fun project and I was fortunate to have three images chosen for the book.  Attached is one of them.  My wife, stepdaughter and soon to be stepson-in-law donned gorilla suits and I photographed them.  The printed book is available for sale in the Art Center’s gift shop."

Hiroshi Suzuki has 5 images of platinum prints from his "Winter Shadow" series on display at Japanese restaurant Muracci in Los Altos downtown. They are on the wall till this summer (probably June/July).

Dany Suk has five images as part of a small exhibition organized by the LightWorks group at the Main Gallery in Redwood City (1018 Main Street) - March 20 - April 21.

Member Lucy Kiang's print entitled "Nature's Art" received Honorable Mention in the landscape and nature category at Photography Show 2013, Lodi Community Art Center.
The reception will be on  February 1st at Lodi Art Center Gallery from 6-8:30pm.

Laurie Naiman's print entitled "A Helping Hand" was accepted in the permanent art collection at Stanford Medical Center, and is on display at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (1st floor across from the Bass Center, between the Gift Shop and the Auditorium on the inside wall.) The same print was in the PACC group exhibit at Pacific Art League in June 2012. (Another of Laurie's prints, 'Foxglove', is on display outside the cardiac lab on the second floor of Stanford Hospital.)

Deborah Plumley will be in the February Member's Show at the Pacific Arts League in Palo Alto.

Dan Hartford's image was selected for the new exhibit “Zoom in on Shoreline at Mountain View” at the historic Rengstorff House, Mountain View’s oldest home and one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture on the West Coast.

'Aspen Leaves and Snow, Eastern Sierra', a print by member Vidya Narasimhan has been chosen to be part of the upcoming Yosemite Renaissance 28 exhibit.

The exhibit will run from Feb 22 thru to May 5, 2013 at the Yosemite Museum Gallery. The artists' reception will be held there on Sun Feb 24.

Images by members Vardan Aroustamian and Shinnan Kiang have been accepted in the 2013 Juried Exhibition of the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel. A print of Vardan's image 'Composition w/ Mirrors' (here) will be shown at the exhibit. Another of his images "Still Life with Three Balls" and one by Shinnan Kiang ("Glimpse of an Autumn Pond") will be on the web gallery. All accepted images may be seen here, and are definitely worth browsing.

The opening reception at the gallery is Sat Jan 12 from 4-6 pm. The show runs through Mar 1, 2013. The gallery is at San Carlos Street at 9th Avenue in Carmel, CA, 93921

Two images by member Carol Straubel have been selected for publication in the Feb 2013 issue of Black & White magazine 'Charred' in the  Texture category on page 230 (image here), and "Repetitions" in the Flowers/Plants/Fruits category on page 154.

Shinnan Kiang's image 'Rocks in Shower', captured in Iceland, has been selected for Single Image Award in the Seascape/Water category. It will be published in Black & White Magazine, Special Issue #95, February 2013, page 136.

Two prints by member Elaine Heron have been selected for exhibit in a juried show at the Coastal Art League Museum/Gallery in Half Moon Bay. The show runs through Jan 13, 2013. An opening reception is being held on Sat Dec 15 from 5-7 pm. DETAILS

Member Ira Greenberg won an Honorable mention in the American Farmscapes category in the national Capture the Heart of America 2012 photo contest with his photo "Taro Field, Kaua'i, Hawai'i." View all images here.

Two of member Judy Kramer's images have been accepted into the Pacific Art League's "Scapes" exhibit. The exhibit will run October 5--25, with the opening reception on Friday, October 5, 5:30--8 PM. The Pacific Art League is located at 668 Ramona Street in downtown Palo Alto. Free parking across Ramona in the garage beneath City Hall.

Elaine Heron is one of 37 artists accepted into the "Handcrafted and Through the Lens: Nature Interpreted" exhibit at the Filoli Center in Woodside, July 10 through October 21, 2012. Her print is entitled 'Hold Your Trunk This Way'.

A print by member Bill Jackson entered in a competition w/ the theme "Portraits" held by Santa Fe Photographic Workshops was among 50 images accepted for publication in a book to be published by them this summer. The competition attracted 3,743 images by 960 photographers from 32 countries. DETAILS

Members Caroline Lambert and Judy Kramer were both finalists, receiving honorable mentions in the Plant Life Category of the 2011 Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District photo contest. Images on left (in order) and rest of results can be seen here.

This image by member Bill Jackson, entitled 'Planet Earth', was among those accepted in an art exhibit accompanying the biannual Summit of the non-profit Sustainable Silicon Valley held on May 24, 2012 at Santa Clara University. The Summit’s theme was “Global Trade and Regional Resiliency”. DETAILS

Member Barbara Tuffli's image “Twisting Edges” (of Yucca gloriosa variegata) was just published in the Garden Club of America's online magazine, 'focus'. (As of May 2, there is no link). A larger view of this image may be seen on the winners page of our June 2011 print competition.

9 prints by 5 club members (Branko Radonjic, Deborah Plumley, Edward Nunez, Marvin Wax & Laurie Naiman) have been selected from over 1500 entries to the2012 Michael H. Kellicutt International Photo Show at the Coastal Art League Museum in Half Moon Bay. A public reception will be held there on Sat July 7, 2012 from 5-8 pm. Images of 3 club members (Plumley, Wax & Naiman) were among those receiving final awards.

4 of the above prints will be hung on the wall (amid a total of 45) and 5 will be shown in a book at the museum.

Member Elaine Heron's image entitled 'Golf Ball Iceberg' received a Merit Award in the Seascape/Water category among the 2012 Single Image Contest Winners in the Feb 2012 issue of B&W magazine. The online image can be viewed here.

Member Hiroshi Suzuki has 8 images from his recent project entitled "Winter Shadow" included in the group show, "Crafted at Rayko"
at Rayko Photo Center in San Francisco. His images are platinum-palladium prints taken by a large format camera and exhibited in the side gallery. Opening reception Sat Mar 24, 6-8 pm. From Mar 15 thru Apr 6.

Seventeen of Judy Kramer's landscape and wildflower images appear in a newly published book from UC Press, titled "California Native Gardening: A Month-by-Month Guide," by Helen Popper. It is available at amazon.com. 

Also, the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) has just published (Mar 2) its 2012 Expressions magazine with two of Judy's images (among the top 250). The magazine can be purchased online (print or digital) at MagCloud.

And ... two her images have been accepted in the April "Secret Gardens" juried exhibit of the Pacific Art League. Exhibit dates are April 6--26, with the First Friday reception on April 6, 5:30--8 pm, 668 Ramon Street, Palo Alto. The two images are Seed Silouette (digital winner in January) and Bee Treat, on left.

Two images from member Mitch Nelles' 'Industrial Design' portfolio were accepted in the 2011 Year-end Gallery of Lenswork Magazine (Nov-Dec issue, #97)

This snapshot of a 1964 Dodge Dart convertible (w/ author Dr Richard Franke) by member Duane Stevenson was taken on the road between Albuquerque, NM and Needles, AZ way back when, and published in Automobile Magazine (in their Cross Country Classic section.

Two images by member Judy Kramer are among 250 being honored by NANPA, the North American Nature Photography Association, in their annual Showcase competition. The photos will be published in their 2012 Expressions magazine. Larger views of these images can be seen on the NANPA website at 'Beetle' and Skink'.

This print of penguins diving into the ocean by member Elaine Heron won the Gold Medal (Wildlife) in the PSA 2011 annual competition. Five of her other entries were accepted into the online catalog.

 Member Charles Anselmo's solo exhibit entitled "Deconstructions: La Habana" - Images of Cuba on Paper and Silk at PHOTO Fine Art Gallery in Oakland is coming to a close this Sat Sept 17. Charles will be speaking at a closing reception from 4-6 pm that day.

Member Gil Draper is having a solo show of 34 prints entitled "Flowers Plus" from Aug 14 to Sept 3, 2011 at Allegro Framing and Art, located in the Ladera Shopping Center - 3130 Alpine Rd, Portola Valley Ca 94028.  Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday 11am to 6 pm.

Among over 1600 images entered in the 2011 Michael Kellicutt International Photo Show competition at the Coastal Arts League Museum in Half Moon Bay, images of three club members have been recognized. Edward Nunez will have 3 prints on the wall, and Bill Jackson and Laurie Naiman will each have one print in the Display Book. A reception and awards ceremony will be held at the museum on Sat July 9 from 5-9 pm, and is open to all.

Member Barbara Tuffli’s image “Twisting Edges” of Yucca gloriosa variegata leaves received first place in the macrophotography class, “Edgy”, at the Visions 2011 Flower Show: California on the Cutting Edge, in Carmel, CA. Garden Club of America (GCA) photographers from across the U.S. were invited to enter the show sponsored by five G.C.A. clubs from the Bay Area (winners not listed on website).

Two of member Judy Kramer's wildflower images received awards in the 2010 Waterton Wildflower Festival Photo Contest. The contest is limited to images taken in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada, during the wildflower festival, June 18--26, 2010.

This print entitled 'I Like Lichen' and one entitled 'Target Practice' by member Judy Kramer were accepted for exhibit at a juried Pacific Art League show entitled "Works on Paper" running from Feb. 4–24. There will be an opening reception on Friday evening, Feb. 4, 5:30--8 pm.

Member Judy Kramer received three awards in the 2011 Anza-Borrego Desert Photo Contest, sponsored by the Anza-Borrego Foundation and Institute. The awards are:
