Image by Romain Curutchet Selected by NYC4PA

Chiaroscuro Courtyard, an image by PACC member Romain Curutchet, was awarded Honorable Mention in the Decay, Corrosion, Rust online exhibition by the New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA).  Michael Itkoff, cofounder of the art book publishing house, Daylight, was the juror.  There were 10 cash prizewinners, 20 Juror Selections, and 20 Honorable Mentions.  In its call for entry, NYC4PA noted that, although we often focus on the new and shiny, there is amazing beauty in the decayed, the corroded, the rusted; and it can make images of those items so much more compelling and interesting.  The exhibition may be seen online at https://www.nyc4pa.com/decay-rust-corrosion.

Romain says:   Behind the famed and tourist-packed Amber palace in Jaipur, India, there is a smaller abandoned palace, unnamed on the map, devoid of anyone.  I just walked in and explored an intricate maze of stairs, courtyards and structures, coming out with a rich photographic output.  Proving yet again that art is in the eye of the beholder, I felt this was actually my least strong image among the 3 images of this abandoned palace I entered in the NYC4PA contest.  However, combined with the other two, it told a representative story of the place.
