Ocean View and In or Out?, by Sue Borg, and Interior, Cement Silo, by Allyson Ely, have been selected for inclusion in The Shadow Aspect Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis.
For this exhibition, Praxis solicited photographic art that explores the formal, conceptual, and metaphoric implications of the shadow – focusing on the shadow as pure visual form expressed through the creation of line, shape, pattern, and texture; or examining the cultural and psychological implications of the shadow - exploring ideas of foreboding, internal conflict, passages into the unconsciousness, or other ephemeral interpretations. Elizabeth Flinsch, the editor at Shots Magazine and visual arts teacher for The Blake School, was the juror. The exhibition will run from August 17 through September 14. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, August 17, 6 to 8 PM. The temporary gallery may be seen at https://www.praxisphotocenter.org/temp-gallery-4-2ts3.
Ocean View, by Sue Borg:
I made this image at the Sea Ranch Lodge at a spot that is often photographed at sunrise and sunset and in color. I was there during the day and was struck by the shadows, lines and contrasts which were conducive to black and white.

In or Out?, by Sue Borg:
This was made at my daughter's home. I was in her dining room and she was in the adjoining kitchen when I saw her shadow on the door as she took a quiet moment to herself.

Interior, Cement Silo, by Allyson Ely:
This loading dock, located inside of a vast, 135’ high cement storage and distribution silo, was the inspiration for my on-going seriesAn Uncommon Beauty.
I’m captivated by this quiet world of shadows, dim light, unfamiliar machinery and discarded equipment; for me, it is a world of the mystical and mysterious. Finding these buildings was serendipitous and even after a year and a half, each visit reveals something unexpected.
The challenge in this facility is photographing in extremely low light, without the use of a tripod. I often think that I should have entitled the seriesSeeing in the Dark!
