Image by Wright Schickli Selected by Praxis Gallery

Just Chill, an image by PACC member Wright Schickli, has been selected for inclusion in the Motion > Blur Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery. Praxis sought photographic art that demonstrates the fundamental qualities that make motion and blur a compelling element of contemporary photography. The image is a frozen moment in time, but what is captured is an object that is a blur of motion – blur can demonstrate velocity of movement or convey emotional dimensions of the subject being photographed. Curation for the exhibition was carried out by the Praxis Directors.

Wright says: I captured this image while standing in a recessed entrance to a now abandoned business along a sidewalk in a downtown Palo Alto Pedestrian Zone. I saw a weary traveler chilling out after his travels in the middle of the Zone, focused on him, and periodically stuck my head out quickly so I could see if there was someone coming down the sidewalk. While most people who saw me abandoned the sidewalk for the Zone, this woman, like a few others, did not. She instinctively turned her head suspiciously when she passed the doorway, and fortunately I was able to capture the moment.

The exhibition will be on the walls August 17 through September 14. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, August 17, 6 to 8pm.
