Images by PACC members Yumiko Ready, Ken Fowkes, Chris Stevens-Yu and Allyson Ely were selected for the Light and Shadow Exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont. When light and shadow work effectively together, magic can happen. PhotoPlace solicited images that use light and shadow effectively to draw attention to the subject, emphasize dimension, strengthen composition, or simply create beauty by the interplay of the two. The juror was Laura Moya, curator, photographer, and former director of Photolucida. Thirty-five Images were selected for Exhibition Gallery in Middlebury; and an additional forty images were selected for display in the Online Gallery on the PhotoPlace Gallery website. The exhibition will take place from October 4 through October 25.
Ken’s image, Damsel, was selected for the Exhibition Gallery.
He says: This was one of over 75 images I took over 20 minutes of this damselfly back in 2015. Back then I selected a different "best", but when I showed that one to fellow club members recently in a critique group run by Nadine Levin, they identified a problem. This prompted me to go back and look again at my captures from that day. It turned out my choice back then was not what I would have picked today. I encourage everybody to go back into their archives and re-evaluate older images in the context of all they have learned. I also want to express my appreciation for Phill Lewenthal's monochrome group. I don't feel adept at monochrome photography, and very much appreciate the exposure I get by attending Phill's group. It gives me an understanding of how a good monochrome photograph is supposed to look.

Morning Light, by Chris, was selected for the Exhibition Gallery.
He says: Morning Light is an image I made in San Francisco during a street photography workshop lead by Stella Johnson and held at the lovely studio owned by PACC members Lenore and Rich. I was drawn to the reflected light on the street as well as the Hopper-esque light and shadows on the vacant restaurant. The businessman hitting just the right spot was the final touch.

Yumiko’s image, Graceful Ginkgo Leaves, was selected for the Online Gallery.
She says: This image is part of my ongoing ginkgo series, which I've been photographing over the past few years. Both the color version and a variation of this image have been featured in PACC exhibits.

Artifacts, by Allyson, was selected for the Online Gallery.
She says: Artifact or fan with a purpose? Footprints in the layer of cement powder on the floor suggest a human presence; the delicate tracings of white powder and strange shadows on the wall add to the mystery of this enchanting room. The sense of a place suspended in time is palpable, and begs the question: are we witnessing the present or deciphering the past?
