Images by PACC members Wright Schickli and Phil Lewenthal were selected for inclusion in the open theme | unmoored exhibition at the A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas. Photographers were invited to submit work that reflected the theme along the lines of “liberated, unbound sprung, emancipated, uncaged, unfettered, expressed, unleashed, released…” Debra Klomp Ching, art consultant, educator, and co-owner of Klompching Gallery in New York City, was the juror. Forty-seven of 607 submitted images were selected for the exhibition, which will run from September 27 through November 7. The exhibition is online at https://asmithgallery.com/exhibitions/open-unmoored/.
About Unchained, Wright says: I captured this photo in a Mountain View parking garage using a 1/6 of a second shutter speed. The person I photographed slowed down his feet as he twisted and looked at me sitting on the ground of the garage with my camera… so the feet and shoes were kinda there, but not the rest of the person. No, this is not a composite which I do not do. I took this image with my Nikon Z7ii and Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 lens that other Club members now own.

About Freedom, Phil says: It continues to amaze me when others connect with these images, and it's an extra delight to have it be included in the same show as Wright's out-of-this-world photo. When the call for "Unmoored" came in, I thought of some of the photos that I've taken that highlight motion and looked to see if something might fit, and came across this photo which I had titled Freedom. It goes back to May of last year and was taken at Sea Ranch. As I always say, the water does all the work – I just try to be in a good spot to see it and to imagine what itmightdo. The high energy and dramatic movement away from the rock in this image gave me the impression of liberation, as if it were escaping from some kind of confinement.
