Phil’s moody image, Prehistory, was selected for the Landscape Online Exhibition at the Southeast Center for Photography. The SE Center sought images of the landscape, whether grand vistas or more personal, intimate treatments – photographs that make a statement, pull us in, make us want to explore. Brian Matiash, professional photographer based in Portland, OR, who specializes in landscape and travel photography, was the juror.
The exhibition runs throughout the month of November. Images may be seen at: https://www.sec4p.com/landscape-24-online-exhibition.
Phil says: The photo was taken in September of last year at Sea Ranch. I had gone down to the bluff in the late afternoon and was looking to photograph a different spot when I noticed the heron standing on a rock to my left. I was lucky that he turned to face the left just as waves curled in the background.
Prehistory was awarded First Place in the Amateur Landscapes category of the 2023 Monochrome Photography Awards, as well as Second Place in the Fauna Category of PACC’s October 2023 print competition.
The SE Center for Photography provides local, national, and international photographers of all skill levels the opportunity to have their work presented and enjoyed by collectors, curators, enthusiasts, and colleagues. The SE Center recently closed its physical location in downtown Greenville; however, the juried shows will exist virtually in a gallery setting that will allow the viewer to walk about and explore.
