Game Over, an image by PACC member Andrew Chasin, was selected for the Online Gallery of the Poetry of the Ordinary Exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont. PhotoPlace solicited images that display the beauty, poignancy, and poetry that exist in ordinary moments. The juror was Blue Mitchell, independent publisher / curator / educator based in Portland, Oregon. Of hundreds of submissions, thirty-five images were selected for the in-house exhibition, and an additional 33 images were selected for the online-only gallery.
The exhibition will take place December 6 through December 27. You can view all the images at: https://photoplacegallery.com/online-juried-shows/poetry-of-the-ordinary/gallery/exhibition-gallery.
Andrew says: I took this photograph in 2019 as I was wandering around San Francisco with my camera. It was pre-COVID and the city was bristling with activity. This scene, filled with loneliness and despair, stood in stark contrast. I felt empathy for the man sitting alone, with his head hung down - perhaps waiting for his chess partner who will never return - and intuitively pressed the shutter button. The photo always evokes an emotional response in me andperhaps the PhotoPlace juror connected with it in a similar way.
