Documentary Film by Susan Weiss Wins Awards

PACC member Susan Weiss has been awarded Best Cinematographer at the Berlin Women Cinema Festival, 8thEdition, for her documentary short film Lia: Body of WorkLia also won the Award of Merit for Web Series and for Fitness/Personal Growth; and Award of Recognition for Documentary Short, for Editing, for Movie Trailer, for Television Program/Series, for Women Filmmakers, and for Women Theme in the Accolade Global Film Competition. In addition, Susan recently found out that the film has been selected as a semi-finalist for the 2025 Munich Short Film Awards and the New York International Women Festival; and an official selection for the Boston Indie Film Festival and the Tokyo International Short Film Festival.


Susan started photographing Lia, a female body builder in Vermont, in 2022, for the documentary short film Lia: A Body Building Story / Director’s Cut.  Lia: Body of Work is Susan’s second film about Lia and her efforts and struggles to compete in that arena. Both films are a combination of still and film photography, using the Leica M9P, M10 and iPhone 15. The current film takes place in 2024, and Susan filmed and photographed from January through September to include her final competition. The Berlin Women Cinema Festival, now in its eighth year, is devoted to independent filmmaking and was established with the intention of selecting, awarding, promoting and recognizing filmmakers in various genres from all over the globe.

 

The Munich Short Film Awards is an online festival and competition dedicated to low-budget short indie film and script projects. 

 

Accolade Global Film Competition, established in 2003, discovers and honors the achievements of filmmakers who produce high quality projects.

 

The New York International Women Festival is a seasonal competitive Festival dedicated to Film style, and female gaze in cinema.

 

Boston Indie Film Festival is devoted to indie cinema and film projects of all genres from international and American filmmakers.

 

The Tokyo International Short Film Festival is a place for unique and underrated films to be seen, films that experience with new methods of narrating their stories. The international section prioritizes independent films that deal with refugees and immigrants, the LGBT community, women, and their everyday struggles.
