Allyson Ely has been invited to participate in Los Angeles Center of Photography's project, Reservoir, a shared repository of responses to the global crisis of loneliness.
Reservoir, a new invitation-only photographic generator by LACP, will create a shared repository of responses to the global crisis of loneliness, through visual storytelling. Cohorts of artists and mentors will create new work that will be included in a book and an exhibition opening in January, 2026, at LACP that will travel to other locations. As reservoirs regulate the flow and storage of water, and therefore provide a sense of stability for their communities, this collaborative project will incubate new approaches through creative practice, research and engagement. Rodrigo Valenzuela, associate professor and head of the photography area of the Department of Art at UCLA, invited Allyson to join his cohort of artists. The theme for this cohort is “strangers in a strange land”; and its objective will be to explore issues around alienation and dislocation from one’s homeland, family, or beliefs. Rotem Rozental, Executive Director of LACP, will provide curatorial insight and guidance to the cohorts throughout the project.
Allyson says: I have long admired Rodrigo Valenzuela’s beautiful, affecting and extraordinarily inventive work and installations. Rotem’s involvement will enrich our experience immeasurably. This is an exciting opportunity for me, and it will be a privilege to join Rodrigo’s group, as well as the broader Reservoir project. This project comes at an opportune time and will provide a much needed cathartic outlet.
For over two decades, LACP has been supporting, mentoring and promoting visual storytellers on their creative journeys at all stages of life and career.
