Ascending, an image by Allyson Ely, was selected by the Southeast Center for Photography in Greenville, SC, for inclusion in its Shades of Black and White Exhibition. SE Center solicited any form of monochrome imagery, black-and-white and toned photography. The juror was Susan Burnstine, a fine art and commercial photographer based in L.A. The exhibition will be shown in SE Center’s virtual gallery and will run from February 1 through February 28.
Allyson says: With a stately presence that belies its industrial function, this staircase stands alone, an old FedEx box its only companion. A single light brightens this otherwise dark space, casting shadows that dance across the walls. There is something compelling and beautiful about this staircase, the cavernous interiors of this cement silo, those pieces of machinery, out of view, that work quietly in the background. It is a place out of time: one that transcends function, where the past is present and the present illusive.
