On Saturday, January 25, 2025, the club goes to the Chinese New Year Flower Market Fair in San Francisco's Chinatown. This is the opening event to Chinatown's three-week celebration of the lunar Chinese New Year.
This is not the massive Chinese New Year parade – which is on Feb 15. This event is far less crowded than the major parade and frequented by Chinese locals rather than tourists. There is a smaller scale parade, performances, Miss Chinatown USA and more. See the photos from the 2019 event to get a feel for the event in the slide show below.
PACC had a similar field trip in 2019, with over 20 people attending and many photos from the event submitted to club competitions. This is a great event for newer members to meet and socialize with longer term PACC members.
This is an opportunity for street, event and floral photography. For photographers uncomfortable photographing strangers, as many people take photos at this event most people are comfortable with reasonably behaving photographers. Those performing generally welcome and want to be noticed and photographed.
We have an organized social Dim Sum lunch for PACC members. This is done with multiple table reservations with up to 8 members per table. Everyone going should register, as emails about trip details will only be sent to those who register, so as not to bother others with unnecessary emails. We are also organizing the Dim Sum Chinese lunch and carpools through the registrations.
Joining a carpool for this event and touring the event in small groups are strongly encouraged - as this contributes to the social aspect of the field trip.
