Images by Wright Schickli Selected by the PH21 Gallery

Ellen Gilkerson | Published on 1/8/2025

Three images by Wright Schickli were selected for inclusion in the Upside Down Exhibition at the PH21 Gallery in Budapest. PH21 Gallery solicited images that are exactly… turned upside down. The curators were Zsolt Bátori, a philosopher of art, photography theorist, and photographer; and Borbála Jász, a philosopher, and art and architecture historian. The exposition will take place from February 8 through March 4. The fascinating and often disorienting images in this exhibition can be seen online at https://www.ph21gallery.com/upside-down-25.

Wright says: Thanks to Nadine and Phil for flagging the PH21 Gallery for me. I couldn’t resist entering their Upside Down call because that’s how I sometimes see and enjoy the world.

Cat Car is a photo of a portion of a junked Nash Ambassador automobile put out to pasture in Niles, but turned upside down, of course!

Cave Man is a cave entrance/exit at Malabar Farms in Ohio where the film Shawshank Redemption was filmed. I’m glad I flipped this photo upside down as I almost didn’t think it was worth the bother, and boy, was I surprised!

The Troll is a photograph I captured at Mitchell Park when Jim Colton and his partner were being awarded a Gold Medal for their spectacular win at the 2024 Senior Pickleball Games! The shoes are the Pickleball Club President's shoes captured when she was giving them their awards, along with her shadow and a shadow of the pickleball fence.
