Another glorious purple image by a PACC member – Peche Turner’s Pyrotechnics was selected for inclusion in Gray Loft Gallery’s 7^th annual juried color-themed photography exhibit, PURPLE! Gray Loft called for images that capture the beauty, emotion, and symbolism of the color purple. Ann Jastrab, Executive Director of the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, and Jan Watten, founder of Gray Loft Gallery, were the jurors. The exhibition will run from March 29 through May 10. The opening and closing receptions will take place on April 5 and May 10, respectively, from 4 to 6:30 pm.

Peche says: This image was made at a Fourth of July Fireworks display. Instead of capturing a wider aspect image with multiple fireworks, this one is zoomed in on a specific burst. This is a 6 second exposure which captures the trails of light as they fall towards the earth forming the "body" of the image. Near the end of the open shutter a second burst ignites forming the "head" of the image. I've isolated this dual burst and darkened the surrounding sky, creating a more abstract image.

Gray Loft Gallery is on the 3rd floor of one of Oakland’s oldest artists’ work/live warehouses in the vibrant artist district, Jingletown. It was founded in 2012 when an airy loft was converted to a gallery space. Its mission is to provide exhibition opportunities for artists in a setting that is an alternative to the traditional gallery model. Gray Loft aims to inspire, engage, celebrate, and acknowledge the achievements of artists at every level in a non-traditional art space.

Gray Loft Gallery is one of about three dozen venues participating in Photo Carmel, a celebration of photography (approximately) on the Central Coast, from Oakland and San Francisco to Carmel Valley, from March 28 through May 4.
