Honorable Mention for Wright Schickli at NYC4PA

Gawking Biker, an image by Wright Schickli, was awarded Honorable Mention by the New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA), and will appear in its Street Photography web gallery and catalog. In its call for entry, NYC4PA noted that "Street photography captures a special essence of life, not posed, not set up, but there in the streets, yards, avenues, etc. that we pass every day. The challenge is composing those photographs that set them apart from snapshots.” Deborah Klomp Ching, fine art photographer and co-owner of the Klompching Gallery in New York City, was the juror. Wright says: I captured Gawking Biker about ten years ago in Ravenna, Italy, with an Olympus SZ-14 point and shoot camera. I was intrigued by the mural I spotted on a wall in a side street and decided it might be worth the wait if I could capture a single biker riding in front of it. It took a while for a lone biker to cruise by, but it was worth it, and this photo remains one of my favorites from the street.

Gawking Biker was awarded First Place in the Humorous Category of PACC’s April 2020 Digital Competition and Second Place in the Print Open Category of the 2021 Annual Competition.
The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) was founded in 2012 by Maddi Ring and Patricia Gilman with a mission to provide exhibition opportunities to fellow photographers worldwide. NYC4PA sponsors international open calls, juried by respected members of the photography community, where submitters compete for cash prizes and/or the opportunity to participate in New York gallery exhibitions.
