Stable and Gatekeeper, images by Wright Schickli, were selected for inclusion in the sanctuary exhibition at the A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas. A Smith welcomed images reflecting the theme sanctuary – refuge, shelter, retreat, hideout, home, oasis, asylum, security, haven. The juror for the exhibition was Doug Beasley, photographer, educator, and publisher of Shots Magazine. The exhibition runs from March 27 through May 7. The reception will take place at 3 pm CDT on April 25, and will be posted as a YouTube video in Gallery Conversations. Wright says:
Stable is a photograph from my trip to Arizona a couple months ago and depicts the inside of a barn at the historic Empire State Ranch near Patagonia, Arizona. I was captivated by the shadows, light and the shapes of the stone in the thick walls of the barn which kept the barn cool. It felt like a sanctuary.

Gatekeeper is one of many scenes I captured in the Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires last year. While parts of the cemetery are extremely well maintained, other parts are overgrown and decaying, such as the mausoleum pictured here.

Gatekeeper was selected for inclusion in “the 27”, a limited-edition hardbound fine art book of twenty-seven images from the exhibition.
A Smith Gallery was established in 2010 by Amanda Smith. Its mission is to promote the photographic arts through exhibitions, workshops, and facilitation of an active vibrant community of photographers. A Smith exhibits the work of both amateur and professional photographers.
