Air Rights, an image by Stefanie Dworkin, was selected by Soho Photo Gallery’s 2026 Krappy Kamera Competition, aka the 28th International Krappy Kamera Competition. Soho solicited extraordinary photographs made with lousy lenses. The juror was Jill Enfield, a fine art photographer and author who concentrates in historical techniques and alternative processes. The exhibition took place from March 4 through March 21. You can see all the images at https://www.sohophoto.com/2026/02/28/2026-krappy-kamera-competition-winners-juror-jill-enfield/.
Stefanie shot this image with a Diana camera using medium format film. The pencil-thin super-tall, ultra-luxury buildings in New York are primarily located along a stretch known as “Billionaire’s Row”, just south of Central Park. The only way a building can be built that tall is when developers buy the air rights over nearby lots.

Soho Photo Gallery is New York City’s longest operating member-run photography gallery. It was founded in 1971 by a group of New York Times photographers who believed that there was a need in the photographic community for a cooperative gallery where serious photographers could exhibit their personal work, exchange ideas, and learn and grow as artists.
