Images by Nadine Levin and Allyson Ely were selected from more than 1500 submissions for inclusion in The Magic of Light exhibition at Art/Space 114 in L.A. Art/Space 114 solicited work to its inaugural juried photography exhibition with the theme, “The Magic of Light”. Jurors were Ann Jastrab, Executive Director of the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel; and Art/Space 114. The exhibition will run from May 7 through June 20; and the opening reception will take place on Saturday, May 9, from 4 to 6 pm.
Nadine’s image, Where the Light Holds, was made in a hotel room in London. The intention for the almost-abstract image is to let the light define the semblance of a figure.

With respect to Allyson’s image, Artifact: Artifact or fan with a purpose? Footprints in the layer of cement powder on the floor suggest a human presence; the strange shadows and delicate tracings of white on the wall add to the mystery of this room. The sense of a place suspended in time is palpable, and begs the question: are we witnessing the present or deciphering the past?
