Images by Wright Schickli Selected by Dusk Gallery and NYC4PA

Images by Wright Schickli were selected for inclusion in the City Exhibition at Dusk Gallery in Santa Fe and in the Luminosity – The Impact of Light Exhibition at the New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) in New York City.

Dusk Gallery:

Dead-End was selected for Dusk Gallery’s upcoming City Exhibition. Dusk Gallery sought images that capture the personal experience of the urban environment – in quiet, unnoticed moments to the dynamic energy of city streets and skylines. The Juror was Holly Hart, a fine art photographer and founder of Dusk Gallery. The exhibition runs from June 5 through 26; and the opening reception will take place on Friday, June 5, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The exhibition is not online at this time.

Wright says:  I captured Dead End with a monochrome camera in the alleys and backstreets of the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood in Cincinnati. The area was founded by German immigrants and fell into disrepair, although now the area is revitalizing and public artwork abounds, even in this dead-end alley. It’s one of my favorite places to photograph, where the new still looks like the old, with thoughtful ongoing renovation.

Dusk Gallery is an artist-centric, submission-driven gallery committed to sharing work selected for its merit and narrative power, showing work from emerging and established photographers worldwide.

NYC4PA:

Table for Two is one of 50 images selected, as well as a Juror’s Selection, for NYC4PA’s Luminosity – The Impact of Light Exhibition. NYC4PA solicited images where the presence, absence, and/or the location of light made the difference: glare, flare, shadow, fill light, lampshades aglow from an inside bulb, night lights in a city and streaming rays of sunlight. The Juror was Crista Dix, Executive Director of the Griffin Museum of Photography. This online exhibition may be seen at https://www.nyc4pa.com/luminosity-1.

Wright says:  Table for Two is a photograph I captured in Jackson while on a PACC field trip a while back (which was awesomely organized by Peche). I noticed this somewhat weird and luminescent scene on Main Street while walking back from dinner with some of our group and managed to capture the photo without getting run over while I was standing in the street.

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) was founded in 2012 by Maddi Ring and Patricia Gilman with a mission to provide exhibition opportunities to fellow photographers worldwide. NYC4PA sponsors international open calls, juried by respected members of the photography community, where submitters compete for cash prizes and/or the opportunity to participate in New York gallery exhibitions. Their advice is simple: Get out there and shoot!
