Claustrophobic, an image by Wright Schickli, was selected for inclusion in the imagined exhibition at the A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas. Im-ag-ined: thought up, visionary, poetic, dreamlike, fictional, surreal. A Smith called for entries that explore the boundaries of imagination through image-making, from the whimsical and fantastical to the conceptual and illusory. The juror for the exhibition was Susan Burnstine, an L.A.-based fine art and commercial photographer. The exhibition runs from June 19 through July 30. The reception will take place at 3 pm CDT on June 27, and will be posted as a pre-recorded YouTube video in Gallery Conversations. Wright says: This is a single exposure, not a multi-exposure, composite or constructed, image that I captured in the wild at the Stanford Shopping Center. Upon close inspection, I noticed a handprint on a small part of a sculpture that stood out because of the lighting and texture in the temporarily stained metal. I was fortunate to have a monochrome camera with me. After staring at the resulting photo for a long time, I imagined being claustrophobic and trapped inside a tight space, scratching away in an attempt to get out into open windswept fields of grain.
