Pondering My Future, an image by Wright Schickli, was selected by Decagon Gallery for inclusion in its exhibition, That One Photograph: the image you never left behind. Decagon notes that there are photographs we return to without choosing to. They surface in memory, in dreams, in the particular quality of light on an afternoon that feels already familiar. We find them still open on our desks years later. We carry them without weight, without effort, without knowing exactly why. Photographers were invited to submit a single image for this exhibition — the one they never left behind. The exhibition was curated by the Decagon Team. The images are online at https://www.decagongallery.com/that-one-photograph.
Wrightsays: I captured this image a block from my house just after the onslaught of the pandemic. What I feel about this photo changes… from a masked girl who escaped from a car that rolled down the ramp into the creek, to a little girl staring forlornly into the industrial distance pondering her future.
