The curator for Essence was Susann Carmen Jagodzińska, a Polish photographer, filmmaker, and writer, whose multidisciplinary, research-led practice explores memory, ancestral roots, and fluid consciousness. Framing her curatorial vision for this anthology, Susann writes, “Essence. An inquiry into inner spirituality. Where the earthly realm meets the inner divine realm. The path to self-discovery often requires confronting what we believed to be true and what is true.Who are we? What leads and guides this process? What is the inner force behind this experience? What is our relationship with it?" unstaged.lab solicited intuitive works that transcend the boundaries of the linear mind.
unstaged.lab was founded, art-directed, and designed by Arek Ratai, an educator, photographer, and critical designer. unstaged.lab began as a publishing platform and has evolved to become a dedicated cultural space and research lab, focused on authenticity and critical thought. Its mission is to create narrative-led anthological inquiries into comforting and discomforting authenticity.
