Simply Pink, an image by Roland Wilhelm, was selected for inclusion in the Exhibition Gallery of Black Box Gallery’s Color Space: Contemporary Photography juried group photo show. Contemporary photographers have the ability to use a large range of dynamic colors. For this exhibition, Black Box asked photographers to use color to think about, compose, stylize, and present contemporary images. The juror was Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery. Twenty-six images were selected for the Exhibition Gallery, and an additional 50 images were selected for inclusion in the On-Line Gallery Annex. The exhibition runs from September 1 through September 25. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, September 5. This vivid exhibition may be seen online at https://blackboxgallery.com/Color Space-Photography-2026-EP.html.
Roland says: I spent the last 40 years living in Pasadena, nearHighland Park, where this image was taken. I was drawn to the scene’s bold colors and simple composition, especially the crisp white railing and trim that punctuate the image. While many photographers avoid harsh midday sunlight, I embrace it for the graphic quality it creates—saturated colors, deep shadows, and strong geometric forms. The diverse architecture and cultures of Los Angeles provide an endless source of inspiration for my approach to urban architectural photography.
