Images by Steve Harris Recognized by International Photography Awards

Several images by Steve Harris were recognized by the International Photography Awards (IPA) for 2026 in the Non-Pro category of photographers. Springtime in the Park was awarded First Place in Special Effects. Meringue, Ray of Hope, and Rock Garden received an Honorable Mention in Fine Art Landscape, and Jagged Edge received an Honorable Mention in Fine Art Abstract.

About Springtime in the Park, Steve says: I created this image using a technique popularized by San Francisco photographer Pep Ventosa. Basically you walk around a subject and take multiple photos, keeping the subject in the same location in frame. Then you blend all the individual shots together as layers in Photoshop to create the final result, which typically has an impressionistic feel. I got the photos comprising this image one morning last March, at Mercy Bush Park in Old Mountain View, where a beautiful cherry tree was in bloom. Incorporating people in the shot was a nice bonus. This was my first time trying this technique with my camera. Big thanks to Ken Fowkes, who met me at the park that morning and gave me some pointers as I captured my shots. Ken also shared a script that automates the initial blending of layers in Photoshop.
