Three images by PACC member Romain Curutchet have been selected for inclusion in the 2020 Chromatic Awards Annual Book.
Chromatic Awards is an international competition for professional and amateur photographers. Images by First, Second, and Third Place winners, as well as images by Honorable Mention winners, from each of twenty categories of photography are displayed in the Annual Book. In addition, all of the images may be viewed on the website.
Romain’s image, Into the Mystic Valley, was awarded Third Place in the Amateur Landscapes category. It has an otherworldly look and was taken during a hike on the Napali Coast of Kauai. He explains: I took a deliberate 'fine-arty' approach by sculpting the light and colors in Lightroom, emphasizing the feeling I had of these Empire State Building-sized cliffs in Kauai, where a lot of them are in shadows, while some light passes through. I do hope that the "God ray" in the photo shines down on my drone, which crashed into those cliffs never to be recovered again...

Romain’s image, The Fishermen of Panama, was recognized with an Honorable Mention in the Amateur Cityscapes category. About this image, he says: It was taken on an 8-hour layover in Panama, where I decided to roam the capital city on foot and Ubers. I found my way to a fishermen's port, where the decaying old boats contrasted brilliantly with the modern skyscrapers. I smoothed out the water in Photoshop, further contrasting it with the chaotic clouds above the sleek city.

Romain’s last image, Gulf of Porto, Corsica, was also recognized with an Honorable Mention, this time in the Amateur Travel category. He says: I took this photo with my second drone (which also crashed in a deep valley a few months later...). The early morning sun rose above the mountains, illuminating this idiosyncratic Corsican town with its old Genoese Tower. And he also notes: I had already submitted this image to a PACC competition – it didn't get any mention, proving the high standards of the camera club, and that you should enter international competitions!
