An image by PACC member Phil Lewenthal has been accepted for inclusion in the current exhibition, Minimalism, at the Decode Gallery in Tucson. Minimalism is the ultimate utilization of negative space; it is inherently simple, with a powerful focus on its subject. The exhibition runs from September 18 through October 9.
Phil’s ethereal image, Tree, Mt. Diablo Foothills, January 2011, was taken on the way to work on a road above I‑680. He says: I often looked for photo opportunities in the foggy East Bay hills on my morning drive from Berkeley to Pleasanton. Not sure why I was traveling down the 680 corridor that morning instead of my usual route through the Berkeley / Oakland hills, but from the freeway I saw the fog surrounding Mt. Diablo and went to see if anything popped out from the neighborhood streets above. When I saw this tree poking out of the fog on a sliver of hillside I had to stop and try to get a worthy photo. As usual, I used a 70-200 lens with a doubler attached. At that point I was not schlepping a tripod with me everywhere, so it was handheld.
Decode Gallery is located in a historic neighborhood near the Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson, and is dedicated to giving fine art photographers the opportunity to show their work.
