An image by late PACC member Weiping Wang is shown on the front page of Views, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District’s Winter 2021-22 quarterly newsletter, which was also an insert in the December 10 issue of The Palo Alto Weekly. In addition, the image heads Midpen’s online Winter 2021 newsletter:

The image, A View from Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, was taken on the day that Mount Umunhum was first open to the public in September, 2017.
On that day, a total of 5.3 miles of new Ridge Trail was dedicated, including a stretch extending south from the existing Ridge Trail in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve in the Santa Cruz mountains. Mount Umunhum is one of the highest peaks in the Santa Cruz mountain range; Umunhum means “resting place of the hummingbirds” in the native Amah Mutsun tribal language.
Weiping died unexpectedly in October, 2021. She was an avid photographer and loved the out-of-doors. Her friends created a GoFundMe page, which is open until the end of January, 2022, to raise funds for a memorial bench. So far, three benches and a picnic table have been funded.
