Chris’ image The Lost Years was awarded Best in Show and First Place in the Portraits category:

This image is part of a larger project entitled “2020 Vision.”  My aim for this image is to place the viewer in the scene that represents the feelings of the past two years where we were all outside observers watching everything and everyone “zoom” past us.  I used a slow shutter speed to blur the passers-by with the camera mounted on a tripod and my friend activating the shutter.

 

This image, with the title Pandemic Self-Portrait, was the Digital Environmental Portrait winner in PACC’s 2021 Annual Competition.

Right place, right time.  I happened to be photographing one female Anna’s hummingbird when a second one came in for the attack.  A fast shutter speed allowed me to freeze the action.  I love the energy of the image creating tension and a story.

 

This image, titled Sneak Attack, won Honorable Mention in the Fauna category of PACC’s October 2021 monthly competition.

Jim’s image Trying to Keep Up was awarded First Place in the Moments category:

I was shooting in burst mode and panning the camera to "freeze" kids riding bicycles and skateboards while blurring the background to show motion.  This scene caught my eye because the presumed mother had to run pretty fast to keep up with her child.  What I like about this image is that the mother and child are moving at the same speed but the mother seems to be frantically moving her arms and legs to keep up with her child.

Ken’s image Squirrel Foraging was awarded Honorable Mention in the Wildlife category:

Every winter the liquidambar tree over my house drops its seeds on my roof, and I enjoy watching the birds and squirrels forage on my skylights.  This year I went up on my roof and cleaned the skylights to prepare for the possibility that I might capture an image like this one. 

 

A similar picture, taken in 2018 through a dirty skylight, was the Second Place winner in the Fauna category of PACC’s 2020 Annual Competition.

Wright’s image Exhausted was awarded Honorable Mention in the Moments category: 

I made the image in 2020 in Palo Alto.  I reached for my camera when I spied this bus driver taking a well-deserved break during the height of the pandemic.  To me, the hospital route, the blue glove, the sleeping driver and his murky shadow really captured the spirit of how we all were feeling during that time:  exhausted.

 

This image, then titled Bad Dream, was the Third Place winner in the Street Photography category of PACC’s October 2020 monthly competition.  Ben Long, the judge for that competition, recommended trying B&W.  The B&W version, The Passenger, was an Honorable Mention winner in the Digital Monochrome category of PACC’s 2020 Annual Competition.
