An image by PACC member Allyson Ely, Interior, Cement Storage Silo, 2022, will be included in Shades of Gray, the 5th Annual Color-Themed Photography Exhibit of the Gray Loft Gallery in Oakland. The show will run from December 10 through January 21. The opening and closing receptions will take place on December 10 and January 21, respectively.
Gray Loft Gallery's call for entry for this exhibition suggested cool neutrals, sophisticated deep charcoal, a glimmer of gray in a color landscape, the mid-tones of a perfect b/w print. Neither stark white nor imposing black, gray is the ultimate negotiator and the color of complexity. Gray is the color intellect and of compromise; it's a diplomatic color, balancing the distance between black and white. Gray can be elegant, cool, and a bit mysterious. Jurors for the exhibition were Ann Jastrab, Executive Director of the Center for Photographic Arts in Carmel; and Gray Loft Gallery founder and owner Jan Watten.
About this image, Allyson says: The interiors of these storage silos are dark places ruled and made efficient by blowers, compressors, and pneumatic conveyors. I’m fascinated by the machinery, the vast spaces, and the complexity of the manufacturing process.
