The Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers provide juried competitions for professional and amateur photographers from around the world, to honor talented photographers and to help them further their careers.
Julia Margaret Cameron was born in Calcutta in 1815 and received her first camera in 1863 – age 48 and mother of six – from her daughter and son-in-law. Malcolm Daniel of The Met’s Department of Photographs wrote a short article about Julia Margaret Cameron’s career as a photographer: https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/camr/hd_camr.htm.
