Looking Inward and Outward by member Nadine Levin has been accepted for the online exhibit of the Center for Photographic Arts 2023 Members’ Juried Exhibition. There were 2,200 entries and the juror Hamidah Glasgow selected 45 images for the gallery and another 45 for the online exhibit.


Our first introduction to this image was in June 2022 when an earlier variation, Insightful, was selected for the Pacific Art League's Group Abstraction Show. Since then, this image has continued to evolve. In August, 2022, a 10"x10" square variation, in color and titled Introspection, was selected for we like small things v.5 at the 2022 Filter Photo Festival in Chicago. In September 2022, a toned version of Introspection won 2nd place in our club's monochrome category. In October 2022, a black and white variation was selected for The Curated Fridge.

Says Nadine: My intention with this image is to create an abstract that gives a sense of both going inward to reflect and gazing outward at the same time.

Founded in 1967, the Center for Photographic Arts remains the second oldest members’ photography gallery space in the country. A short walk from Ocean Avenue in Carmel, California brings you to the venerable gallery originally occupied by the Friends of Photography, launched by iconic artists Ansel Adams, Cole Weston, and Wynn Bullock. Today, the CPA continues to serve as a valuable asset to its members, the community, and the greater world of the photographic arts.
