Images by PACC members Allyson Ely and Susan Harding were selected by the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers. Jurors were Elizabeth Avedon, a photography book and exhibition designer, curator, and writer; Ann Jastrab, executive director of the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel; and Elizabeth Krist, faculty member of the International Center of Photography.
The Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers provide juried competitions for professional and amateur photographers from around the world, to honor talented photographers and to help them further their careers. There are approximately 25 categories each for professional and amateurs, and awards for single images and for series within each category. First Place and Honorable Mention awardees are invited to include their images in an exhibition at FotoNostrum in Barcelona.
Allyson’s image, Aggregate Pit, 2022, was the First Place Winner in the Landscapes/Seascapes single-image category for amateur photographers. She also had Honorable Mention single images in the following categories: Abstract – 4 images; Black/White – 5 images; Architecture & Interiors – 4 images; Cityscapes – 1 image; Fine Art – 4 images; as well as a series of 6 images in the Black/White category.
About this very cool image, Aggregate Pit, 2022, she says: This image was taken from 135’ above the pit with a 120mm lens and is an example of how an interesting photograph can be found in the most unexpected places. I was attracted by the pronounced pattern, movement and coloration created in the aggregates by a backhoe loader moving in, out and around the pit. When material is transported from one side to another and laid down, dumping the aggregates creates a precise, interesting pattern.

Susan’s series of six black & white images was taken on a trip to France and was the First Place Winner for a series in the Street Photography category for amateur photographers.
About Monk, Dijon Train Station, one of the images from her pensive Street Photography series, Susan says: This image was taken at a train station in Dijon. We were waiting for our train and I saw this monk waiting for his train. I loved the juxtaposition of what seems like the old world with the sleek lines of the train. I'm excited to see the series of 6 images all together on the walls on FotoNostrum.
