An evocative self portrait by Nadine Levin has been selected for inclusion in the Self Portrait exhibition at the Decode Gallery in Tucson. In their call for entry, Decode wrote:
The act of creating a self portrait is an important process for an artist. Self portraits reveal stories, it's an exploration of identity, it's an intimate glimpse into the life of the artist.
Holly Hart, gallery director for Decode, was the juror. The exhibition will run from September 9th through October 7th, with the opening reception on September 23rd, from 7 to 10 pm.
About Taking on Another's Persona Nadine says:
I have been working on a long-term project that processes my relationship with my mother using family photos and objects that were left to me when my mother passed 5 years ago, with self-portraits and still lifes. I made this image in the context of that series while participating in a course conducted by the LA Center for Photography. I was posing as if I were my mother as I remember her.
The Decode Gallery is a submission based photography gallery that lives in the historic neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona, near the Museum of Contemporary Art. Their stated objective is to support emerging fine art photographers and give them the important opportunities to show their work.
