An Image by PACC member Wright Schickli, Great-Grandma’s Candlestick, was selected for inclusion in the Poetry of the Ordinary exhibition at the PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont.
For this exhibition, PhotoPlace sought the simple poetic elegance of the ordinary. Sarah Sudhoff, a Cuban-American visual artist and educator, was the juror. She said that, in each of the works she selected, the photographer was able to hold her attention through dynamic composition, thoughtful use of light, and unique point of view, drawing her further into the image and implied narrative of the work. Thirty-five images were selected for the Exhibition Gallery, and 40 images were selected for the Online Gallery.
Wright says: After folding my laundry one evening, I noticed the light coming into my bedroom window and shining on my Great Grandma’s brass candlestick on my dresser. I ran for my camera, and then played with the mirror angle a little for this natural light still life. Handheld, no flash, and no tripod (my usual modus operandi).
