Two images by PACC member Romain Curutchet have been awarded Honorable Mention in the 2023 Chromatic Awards – Avignon in the Architecture category, and Mallos De Riglos Chiaroscuro in the Cityscape category The jury comprised seventeen photographers and artists from around the world.
Romain says: Chromatic Awards is a competition I like to enter each year because of the quality of photos entered there. This year, I decided against entering any Landscape photos, which is where I'm most comfortable, and challenge myself with the Cityscape and Architecture categories.
My image Avignon (Architecture) captures the geometric shapes of buildings in a narrow alleyway behind the Palais des Papes in Avignon, France. Looking up, I was stuck by the nice color contrast afforded by the golden hour light and the sky reflecting in the windows, as well as the seamless blend of a section of the religious Palais des Papes with more secular dwellings.
My image Mallos De Riglos Chiaroscuro (Cityscape) full of rustic stone, contrasts with the smooth steel and glass cityscapes we often see in photo competitions. This type of small European villages is the type of 'cities' I would rather live in! Riglos is a charming town in the Huesca province of northern Spain, which is set against some massive vertical orange rock formations. Wherever you walk in the town, you can see the church set right against the cliff face, and I wanted to capture that by framing it with a dark alleyway while the church caught the early morning light.
