Ladder, an image by PACC member Allyson Ely, was selected for inclusion in the Monochrome Gallery Exhibition at the PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont. The objective of this exhibition was to explore the beauty and powerful expressive ability of monochrome photography. Any capture method and all processes, including B & W, alternative process, and monochromatic toning were welcome. The juror was Henry Horenstein, professor at the Rhode Island School of Design and former student of Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskin. Thirty-four Images were selected for exhibition in the gallery in Middlefield, and an additional 39 images were selected for display in the Online Gallery on the PhotoPlace Gallery website. The exhibition will take place from February 2 through February 23.
Allyson says about Ladder: My favorite of the images taken inside a cement storage silo, this simple ladder was propped against a wall, hidden in a cramped, dark corner and lit indirectly by an old fluorescent tube. What captured my attention was the lovely shadow created by the light, the highlights on the upper rungs, and the faint detail in the ceiling above.
