Image by Nadine Levin Selected by the Praxis Gallery

Seeing What I Look Like on Great Grandmother’s Face, an image by PACC member Nadine Levin, has been selected for inclusion in the Family Photos International Juried Photography Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis.
For the Family Photos Exhibition, Praxis Gallery sought photography that unravels the intricate tapestry woven by family dynamics, histories, and emotions encapsulated within conceptually constructed images, seemingly ordinary images, or historic family photographs. The exhibition was curated by the Praxis directors. The exhibition will be on the walls February 17 through March 9; and the opening reception will take place on Saturday, February 17, 6 to 8 PM.
About this arresting image, Nadine says: This image is part of my long term project, Unpacking What Is Left Behind, as a personal narrative series. It is an unusual image in that it involves a family archive photo that I have rephotographed with a transparency of a self-portrait of my face taped onto the glass covering the family photo. I elected to photograph this (use and show the tape) to demonstrate how we are part of those who came before us and those who will come after us (and who very well may tape a transparency of their face over mine). Perhaps an unorthodox approach to photography
