Master Bedroom Wall, an image by PACC member Wright Schickli, was selected by The Chateau Gallery for inclusion in its Beauty in Decay online-only monthly exhibition. For its Beauty in Decay exhibit, the Gallery solicited all forms of photographs that depict or challenge the concept of Beauty, noting that Beauty is subjective in the eye of the viewer. While societal conventions pressure us to conform to like-mindedness, the most ethereal craft often originates from work that transgresses tradition. True innovation and creative brilliance often occur when individuals question or break away from established norms.
Wright says: I captured this image inside an abandoned house in Cincinnati which I foolishly entered (but the door was wide open, after all), thinking there might be good photo opportunities. The house was on the Historic Registry but had fallen into seriously major neglect and was slated to be dismantled (unbeknownst to me at the time) because it could not be demolished. The sun was setting, the light was eerie, and I saw lots of beauty in the decay all around me. Fortunately, my monochrome camera was able to capture some of what I saw. And I made it home.

Set in the heart of Historic Old Louisville Preservation District, The Chateau Gallery is a contemporary hybrid art gallery and studio with a narrative as captivating as the artwork housed within its walls. The building’s unique Chateauesque Victorian architecture lends itself to the gallery’s name. Throughout its many lives, this building has served as the estate of a tobacco baron, a funeral home, the Kentucky College of Barbering, an unlicensed child care center, a "drug dealer's palace," and a law office.
The online-only exhibition will take place March 1 through April 1; honors will be announced during the exhibition.
