Field Trip: Wildflower Safari: Edgewood Park Friday, April 21, 2023, 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM I visited Edgewood Park on April 18 and the Wildflowers were looking very good. At the page bottom, there is an annotated map that shows where to park and which trails to use. The heavy rains from recent months should make 2023 a truly exceptional year for Spring Wildflowers. Each year, Edgewood Park proves to be a top spot for wildflowers in the Bay Area. So Edgewood Park will be our first Wildflower Safari for 2023. Edgewood Park is conveniently located near the intersection of Hwy 280 and Edgewood Rd, about 25 minutes from downtown Palo Alto by car. A great resource for knowing Wildflower conditions at Edgewood Park and other aspects of the park is a group of volunteers unaffiliated with the San Mateo parks dept called "The Friends of Edgewood." Their website is https://friendsofedgewood.org/ The Plan This page is updated based upon what I saw on April 18, 2023 To get to the meetup in the parking area, take Hwy 280 to the Edgewood exit and then drive West to Canada Rd. At the intersection of Edgewood and Canada Rd, turn Left and drive past the Hwy 280 overpass. (see annotated map below) On the annotated map below there are 2 recommended routes to take. One is an in and out with a round-trip distance of 2 miles from the entrance on Canada Rd. The other uses the previous trail to start and then takes you into a loop, with a total distance of 3.5 miles and about 500 ft climb. There are no restroom facilities on these trails, unless you go quite far. There are restrooms at the Filoli visitor center which can be accessed without having a ticket into Filoli. Some Essential Information Bringing Guests is encouraged. If you plan to go, please register using the "Register Now" button on the right.
