In our first member presentation of 2024, Michael Goldstein (Street), Ryan Jacobs (Film/Prism), and Suszi McFadden (Studio) will discuss their fascination with – and techniques for – photographing people.

Mike approaches his people photography as if every image has a story to tell. Whether abroad or right here in the Bay Area, Mike looks for real people in everyday situations, capturing their unposed moments, looks, and environment to create a unique narrative with every click.

Ryan’s "Dream Portal" is a series of photographic portraits, captured using medium and large format film cameras and printed onto silver gelatin fiber paper in the wet darkroom. The portraits are all single exposures, with prisms inserted between the subjects and the camera lens.

Suszi works with her subjects to create unique in-studio portraits by collaborating on creative concepts, and then using hair, makeup, posing, and light to bring them to life. She then continues her creativity in post, adding elements such as texture, color grading, and skin retouching to finalize her images.
