Image by Allyson Ely Accepted for the Griffin Museum of Photography’s Winter Solstice Exhibition

Ascending, an image by Allyson Ely, has been accepted by the Griffin Museum of Photography for its Annual Winter Solstice Members’ Exhibition. This exhibition brings together the community, lighting the museum with images, ideas, and boundless creativity, to celebrate the works of the Griffin’s photo community in all of its splendor. About three hundred images will appear in the museum as well as online at: https://griffinmuseum.org/show/winter-solstice-2024/. The prints will be offered for sale with a maximum price of $250. The exhibition runs from December 13 through January 5, and the reception for the artists will take place on Saturday, December 14, from 4 to 6 pm.

Allyson says:  With a stately presence that belies its industrial function, this staircase stands alone, an old FedEx box its only companion. A single light brightens this otherwise dark space, casting shadows that dance across the walls. There is something compelling and beautiful about this staircase, this cavernous space, those pieces of machinery, out of view, that work quietly in the background. Two years later, the emotional pull and the desire to photograph these objects is as strong as ever.
