Images by Lisa ErdbergSteve HarrisMarcia Lepler, and Wright Schickli were selected for inclusion in the Landscapes Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis. Praxis sought photographic artwork that explores a broad, interpretive, and personal investigation of the landscape: both as a place or an idea, as a literal expression or conceptual iteration. Sandrine Hermand-Grisel, a freelance fine art photographer and creator of the website All About Photo (https://www.all-about-photo.com/), was the juror. The exhibition will run from January 18 through February 8. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, January 18, 6 to 8 PM. The temporary gallery with many interpretations of “landscape” may be seen at https://www.praxisphotocenter.org/temp-gallery-2-2ls3.

Lisa says, about Windswept:  This image, made in 2017 at The Sea Ranch, seems to be my most popular image, and it’s one of my favorites. I think it evokes a mood of solitude and resilience.

About Candelabra, Steve says:  I made the image on the last morning of a landscape photography workshop in Yosemite, early this November. We were in El Capitan Meadow; and across the meadow I saw a grove of young cottonwood trees, all in a line, fairly evenly spaced, and all similar in height. Their brilliant yellow leaves were catching the morning sun, and I was immediately drawn to them and knew I wanted to do some ICM to capture their form and colors. This was my favorite shot of the morning.

Marcia says:  I’ve been experimenting with Lightroom and revisiting some of my older imagesI took this image, Sand Storm in Jordan, about 15 years ago on a day trip to Petra from Israel. On the way back, we ran into a blinding sandstorm. This truck was stuck on the road caught in the swirling sand. We were in a van and managed to get out.

Wright says:  Emerald Hills is a place I really want to visit but cannot go to because it does not exist outside of my mind. I captured this photograph a couple of years ago of what I think it might really look like with the help of my camera while in Cincinnati. Fortunately, this Praxis competition was for “Landscape” and not “Natural Landscape” as there is nothing in my single shot photograph that is not person made.
