Images by Nadine Levin and Wright Schickli Selected by the Praxis Gallery

Ellen Gilkerson | Published on 7/18/2021

Images by PACC members Nadine Levin and Wright Schickli have been selected for inclusion in the The Streets Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center in Minneapolis.  In this exhibition, Praxis presents photographic art that explores the genre of street photography from all angles, including people, urban structure, and documentary subject matter.

Nadine’s image, Looking for Customers in All the Wrong Places, was taken in Estonia in September, 2019. She says:  Walking in a central part of the City I saw this “sales person” for KFC.  He seemed out of place in the environment of Eastern Europe and was being ignored by people passing him.  The light was good and I thought the scene presented  an interesting take on the action on the street. I hope his presence encouraged some customers to find their way to KFC for his sake.

Wright’s image, Gawking Biker, was taken in Ravenna, Italy.  He says:  I was walking at sunset and noticed this wonderful graffitied corner that was not in the shadows and photographed it.  I had to wait for a while until no bicycles were whizzing by.  As I stood watching multiple bikers go by, I thought it would be interesting to capture a single biker heading in the direction of the mural who did not obscure, but rather might add to, the impact of the mural.  I succeeded in capturing this image with my Olympus SZ-14 cheap point and shoot camera, at 1/13 sec at f 3.4, ISO 200, 6mm.

The color version of this image was awarded first place in the PACC special category, Humor, in the April 2020 monthly competition.
