Images by Ken Fowkes and Wright Schickli Selected by the Praxis Gallery

Ellen Gilkerson  | Published on 11/17/2021

Images by PACC members Ken Fowkes and Wright Schickli have been selected for inclusion in the Landscapes Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center in Minneapolis.

The exhibition features photographic artwork that explores a broad, interpretive, and personal investigation of the landscape - as a place or an idea; as a literal expression or conceptual iteration.  The juror was Wendi Schneider, a Denver-based visual artist widely known for her ongoing series of hand-gilded photographs, who embraces photography to preserve vanishing moments of beauty in our vulnerable environment.

Ken says about his image, Lone Pine, Pinnacles National Park:  I captured this image way back in 2014, shortly after I decided to carve out more room in my life for photography.  I rediscovered it this year while looking for a landscape to share in one of the small groups, and ended up reprocessing it in a completely different way -- upside down, cropped, and desaturated.

Wright says:  Lost in the Orchard is a photo I captured at a U-Pick-It orchard in Morgan Hill in November, 2020.  I had driven through the area many times and was captivated by the symmetry of the trees.  On this particular day, the lighting was spooky and I felt compelled to stop and take yet another photograph of the area.
