Pondering My Future, an image by PACC member Wright Schickli, has been selected for inclusion in the Narratives ~ Figments or Fragments exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center in Minneapolis.

This Praxis Gallery exhibit presents photographic works that explore the development of visual narratives through the still image. The stories submitted in photographic form were allowed to take any shape or form; be it literal or fantasy, documentary or fiction; complex or minimal. Emma Powell was the juror. Her fine art photography is well-known to incorporate alternative photographic processes to illustrate fantasy narratives.

Wright says: I don't know how to do alternative photographic processes to illustrate fantasy narratives like the Judge Emma Powell (or necessarily want to learn) and make a photo a composite. I just like photographing things as I see them, especially if the viewers think it is a composite and they are not the Judge. And even if they are, I like confusing them, and… if I just fooled them, well, IMHO I have had success… I captured this image in June 2020 at dusk on a cloudy day along Matadero Creek in Palo Alto, a couple blocks from my house, during a Pandemic walk. I saw a young girl looking towards the creek, with her white dress somehow capturing a few rays of the day's last light. The surroundings looked very industrial: polluted, abandoned, and almost surreal with a road disappearing into the creek. I wondered what she was thinking about, and I just sensed that she was Pondering her Future. I didn't put her there.

This image, then titled Dreaming of My Future, was also included in the Open Theme exhibition at the Praxis Gallery in November.

The in-gallery exhibition will be on the walls January 15 through 29. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, January 15, when the Juror's Choice, Director’s Choice, and three Honorable Mention images will be announced. Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center is a non-profit community-based arts organization that aims to support the development of emerging photographic artists.
