Image by Beatriz Martinez Selected by the Praxis Gallery

Break – Getting coffee to be inspired, an image by PACC member Beatriz Martinez, has been selected for inclusion in the Still Life exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center in Minneapolis.

In this exhibition, Praxis Gallery presents photographic art that investigates the genre of the Still Life.  Still life photography is a demanding genre, one in which photographers are expected to be able to form their work with a refined sense of lighting, coupled with composition and design skills.  The still life photographer makes pictures rather than takes them.  The juror for this exhibition was Kimberly Witham.

Beatriz says about her engaging image:  The light has always captivated my eyes.  I sat down to take a break during one hectic day.  Decided to put my coffee on the carpet and after a bit, while turning to take a sip, noticed the light, took my phone and pressed the shutter.  I enjoyed the result.  As Emmett Gowin said:  "Photography is a tool for dealing with things everybody knows but isn't attending to."  Interesting also that I decided to send this one at the last minute, as part of a group of nine pictures.  Almost didn't make it.
