Images by Wright Schickli and Brandon Stauffer Selected by the Praxis Gallery

Palo Alto Baylands, an image by PACC member Wright Schickli and Shadow, an image by PACC member Brandon Stauffer, have been selected for inclusion in the Black and White Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center in Minneapolis.

More than half a century after the advent of color film, black and white & monochromatic photography continues to capture our collective imagination. In this exhibition, the Praxis Gallery presents photographic works that demonstrate the fundamental qualities that make black & white and monochromatic photography an enduring, contemporary art form. The juror was Robi Chakraborty.

Wright says: Palo Alto Baylands is one of my favorite places to walk from my house that I’ve found difficult to photograph absent animals or interesting people. But I guess I finally succeeded, as Shadow & Light also published it; and I liked it enough before it was recognized to share it as part of our PACC exhibit at the Palo Alto Art Center Exhibit.

Brandon says: I took this picture on Hamilton Avenue in Palo Alto. I was initially drawn to the interesting shadow cast by the traffic light. After working the scene for a few minutes, I landed on a composition I liked. I find the particular combination of geometries and textures pleasing.

The in-gallery exhibition will be on the walls November 19 through December 3. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, November 19 from 6 to 8 pm. The current location of the online exhibition is https://www.praxisphotocenter.org/temp-gallery-4-2bw2.

Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center is a non-profit community-based arts organization that aims to support the development of emerging photographic artists. Praxis provides photographic exhibitions and learning opportunities that inform, challenge, and engage the individual artist, and promotes artists’ work to local and international audiences.
