Images by Yumiko Ready and Ken Fowkes Selected by Praxis Gallery

Published on 12/7/2022

Images by PACC members Yumiko Ready and Ken Fowkes have been selected for inclusion in the Nude Geographies Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis.

The nude form has been portrayed in art throughout history, from the classical era to the enlightenment and the modern era.  The nude figure in western art - specifically in photography - has expressed ideals of female and male beauty along with other human qualities including life, energy, and an array of complicated human emotions.

Praxis Gallery presents photographic works that explore the nude in any of its varied styles including:  figure studies, environmental nudes, implied nudes and erotica - just to name a few of the many iterations of this genre.

If Yumiko's boudoir-styled Daikon in Repose looks familiar, that's because it received an Honorable Mention in the Open category of the 2021 Annual Competition, and was on display at the PACC exhibit at the Wheelhouse this fall.  About her sexy radish, Yumiko says:  I have always been drawn to the wonderful nature forms around me — especially those of vegetables and fruits.  I came across this Daikon Radish at a local farmers’ market.  Perfectly in repose.  I shot this image in natural early morning light before sunrise.  Unique forms in the nature have always attracted my attention.

Since the Nude Geographies exhibit will share the Praxis gallery space with the Motion>Blur exhibit, Yumiko will have two images on display at Praxis in December.

Ken's Sweet Dream received an Honorable Mention in the Creative category of the July 2022 Monthly Digital Competition.  Ken says: Sweet Dream is from a series of images of a corkscrew willow tree in my backyard.  I used long exposures, camera motion, and serendipity to create figures, in this case of a reclining, perhaps sleeping, human torso with overlaid facial elements. I was very amused to find out that Yumiko's and my entries were the only images accepted that weren't actual nudes.
