Series by Allyson Ely Exhibited at Decode Gallery

Ellen Gilkerson | Published on 1/6/2024

A series of twelve images from PACC member Allyson Ely’s current project, An Uncommon Beauty, has been selected for inclusion in the Three Artist Exhibition at the Decode Gallery in Tucson.  Decode’s call for entry solicited artists who have a collective series of images of any kind.  Holly Hart, a conceptual fine art photographer and gallery director for Decode, was the juror.  The exhibition will run January 13 through February 3, and the opening reception will take place on Saturday, January 13, from 5 to 8 pm.

Allyson Ely:  Image from the series, An Uncommon Beauty

This series, An Uncommon Beauty, may not be what you would expect, given the title – unless you know Allyson and her interests!  It explores the vast, interior space of a 135’ high, working cement silo in Northern California:  a world of shadows, dim light, unfamiliar machinery, and discarded equipment.  Eerily silent, devoid of people and activity, this is an otherworldly place of mystery and poetry.  These images reveal a world hidden for almost half a century and celebrate the uncommon beauty of the interior spaces and machinery.

Decode Gallery is located in a historic neighborhood near the Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson and is dedicated to giving fine art photographers the opportunity to show their work.  Gallery exhibition openings take place every second Saturday.
