Image by Allyson Ely Selected by Praxis Gallery and Photo Arts Center

Staircase, an image by PACC member Allyson Ely has been selected for inclusion in the Black and White Exhibition at Praxis Gallery and Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis.

For its Black and White Exhibition, Praxis Gallery sought photographic artwork utilizing tone, contrast, texture and shape, monochromatic photography that strips its subject to only the most essential visual elements, revealing a sense of soul, substance, and meaning –  separate from the shifting sentiments, symbolism, and cultural associations of color imagery.  Elizabeth Flinsch, the editor at Shots Magazine and visual arts teacher for The Blake School, was the juror.  The exhibition will be on the walls March 16 through April 13.  The opening reception will take place  on Saturday, March 16, 6 to 8 PM. The images in the exhibition are currently located online at

Staircase is one of the images in Allyson’s series, An Uncommon Beauty.  This series explores the vast interior space of a 135’ high, working cement silo in Northern California – a world of shadows, dim light, unfamiliar machinery, and discarded equipment.  Eerily silent, devoid of people and activity, this is an otherworldly place of mystery and poetry.  These images reveal a world hidden for almost half a century and celebrate the uncommon beauty of the interior spaces and machinery.
